Sustainable Gender Equality: Why and How?
20.12.2023 / Education

Gender equality refers to the equal access of individuals to social, economic and political resources and opportunities, regardless of their gendered belongings. Achieving it, as a fundamental human’s right, has become an urgent purpose on a global scale, due to ongoing gender-based inequalities, such as violence against women, women’s unpaid domestic and care work, and gender-based inequalities in the labor market. Gender equality is one of the 17 main items within the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved by the United Nations member countries, including Turkey, in 2015. Within the scope of this goal, it is aimed to end all discrimination against women and girls and adopt the necessary policies and legal practices to ensure the empowerment of women and girls in social, economic, and political contexts. One of the fundamental steps in ensuring this goal is to raise awareness on the subject. Hence, this seminar aims to inform our university’s students and staff members about the key concepts and practices of gender equality and the mechanisms through which sustainable gender equality can be achieved.
