Faculty of Architecture Architecture Talks: Validity in Architecture: “World Architecture Awards”

Born in Ankara in 1945, Suha Özkan graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Middle East Technical University in 1967 as an architect. He received the title of associate professor and then professor at the same university. He became the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture in 1977, and the vice-rector in 1979. He took various positions in many architectural competitions, universities, academic institutions, and other architectural institutions in Turkey and abroad. Among these institutions are Hassan Fathy Institute, United Nations Center for Human Settlements, Aga Khan Architecture Award Manager (1982-2007), UIA International Union of Architects Council Member (2002-2008), and UIA 2005 Congress Presidency. The only Turkish Honorary Member of the US Institute of Architecture (Hon F AIA) Prof. Dr. Suha Özkan received the National Architecture Awards and the Achievement Award for Contribution to the Profession in 1994, and he organized many international competitions and took active roles such as chairing the juries. In this speech, which will be held online within the scope of World Environment Day at Hacettepe University Faculty of Architecture, Mr. Özkan aims to draw attention to the concept of validity in the architectural profession and how architectural design should be sensitive to the natural environment through the International Architecture Awards. The conference will be held in Turkish.
