Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day: September 7, 2021
07.09.2021 / Conference / Seminar

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. DMD gene, encoding for the dystrophin protein, is the longest human gene known. It consists of 79 exons. This is why 7/9 is the date for World Duchenne Awareness Day. This years’ theme is ‘Adult Life and Duchenne’. In the era of Covid-19 pandemic, we would like to discuss and highlight the importance of early diagnosis, implementation of national registries, transition to adult clinics, physiotherapy and respiratory care, in line with current up to date recommendations for vaccination and safety measures for our DMD population from a pediatric perspective.
