Prof. Dr. Şinasi Özsoylu was born in Erzurum in 1927. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1951. He completed his residency in Child Health and Diseases in Hacettepe in 1955. Dr. Şinasi Özsoylu worked as a pediatrician at Washington University, St. Louis Children's Hospital between 1959-60 and in the field of enzymology at the same university between 1960-61. Our teacher taught Pediatric Hematology between 1961-63 at Harvard University, Boston Children's Hospital. He completed it under the supervision of Louis K. Diamond. After returning to Hacettepe University, Dr. Özsoylu won the American Board of Pediatrics exam in 1963 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1964 and Professor in 1969. He worked in the field of Nuclear Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in 1971 and was Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland from 1971-72.

Prof. Dr. Şinasi Özsoylu has been a pioneer in the fields of Pediatric Hematology and Pediatric Hepatology in our country. He personally led the establishment of these branches of science. He was the Head of Hacettepe University, Pediatric Hematology and Pediatric Hepatology Departments until his retirement in 1994. An internationally known name, Prof. Dr. Şinasi Özsoylu has nearly 1000 publications and two books. In particular, the use of mega-dose methylprednisolone therapy in the treatment of acute ITP has been brought into the literature.
