The TUBON project (Türkiye Ulusal Büyüme Olgunlaşma Norm çalışması), which was supported by TÜBİTAK 1001 program and with the additional financial support of our university, has been completed. The TUBON project was carried out to examine the differences in motor coordination, body composition, physical activity, physical fitness, and physical self-perception in Turkish children according to their growth and biological maturation status and to establish norm values. The other aims of the project were to determine the physical activity (PA) levels of Turkish children, to determine sedentary activity times, and to reveal the prevalence of obesity by body composition measurements. Additionally, it investigates the mediating role of physical self-perception in predicting children's PA levels and explores the relationship between PA and academic achievement.
The findings from the TUBON project hold significant importance for various stakeholders. Researchers engaged in areas such as talent screening, evaluating the content and effectiveness of physical education and sports programs, monitoring individual development, and making classifications can use the data obtained from this project by comparing it with the established norms. This information will also be valuable for professionals working in fields that require movement, play, physical education, sports, physical fitness, recruitment, health, and ergonomics (including the automotive and furniture sectors), allowing them to develop effective programs based on these findings.
We invite you to the "TUBON Project Results Sharing Meeting," which targets institutions that can directly benefit from our project's outcomes. This event will take place on January 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Sıhhiye Campus Culture Centre M Hall of Hacettepe University.
