Turkey is located in one of the richest geographies of the world in terms of animal diversity. When we look at the geography of Anatolia, we see that it is at the intersection of the continents of Asia, Europe and Africa. This intersection causes Anatolia to host creatures specific to all three continents. When reasons such as climatic changes, changes in habitat characteristics, and animals' instincts to move and find new living spaces are combined with the existence of an ecosystem suitable for the vital functions of animals such as finding food and shelter, a very rich animal diversity emerges. Another reason for animal diversity is that Anatolia has very different ecosystems with its different geological, geomorphological and climatic features. High mountains, steppes, wetlands, forests and bushes, caves and the ecosystems they form allow different types of animals to live. The fact that Anatolia is on the migration route of birds also provides richness in terms of bird species. It can be said that Turkey is also very rich in terms of marine species. The Black Sea, with its cold and less salty waters in the north, the Mediterranean, with its warm and very salty waters in the south, and the Marmara Sea, which is an inland sea where both seas intersect, allow different marine species to live. In addition, numerous lake and river systems allow freshwater fish and invertebrates to live.
Having this diversity also brings responsibilities. For this reason, various projects and applications have been implemented to ensure the sustainability of biodiversity and the ecosystem and to cope with the consequences of climate change.
