Symposium on Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis- Exercise and Neuroplasticity
31.05.2023 / Congress / Symposium

Multiple sclerosis is a heterogeneous disease characterized by various neurological symptoms and signs caused by inflammation, demyelination and axonal losses of the central nervous system. Neuroplasticity is the ability to respond to internal and external stimuli by restructuring the structure, function and connections of the nervous system. Exercise is a behavior that promotes and maintains brain plasticity, activates molecular and cellular steps. Exercise; it has been shown to improve neuroplasticity, improve cognitive, sensory and behavioral functions by increasing the potency of neurogenesis, angiogenesis and LTP, as well as to have an important place in the prevention and reduction of neurodegenerative, neuropsychiatric, cardiovascular disorders, other complications caused by sedentary life. In this symposium, the concept of neuroplasticity will be mentioned and the effects of various exercise methods on neuroplasticity will be emphasized.

The symposium will be held with the contributions of Hacettepe University MS Research and Application Center and Hacettepe University Faculty of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.
