Renowned psychiatrist and author Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu was born in 1947 in Ankara. After completing her primary and secondary education at TED Ankara College, she enrolled in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1966. During her medical studies, she passed the TRT television announcer exam in 1968 and worked as a full-time presenter for five years, hosting Turkish music programs and news. In 1972, she graduated from medical school, married in 1973, and left TRT to join Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry as a resident. She became a specialist in 1977 and worked as a lecturer until 1982. Although she was set to become an associate professor, she chose private practice over academia and left the university. For 23 years, she practiced privately in Ankara before founding Turkey's first and only private psychiatric center, Madalyon Psychiatric Center, in 2005. This center became a place of support for people from all walks of life. Budayıcıoğlu has also shared her professional experiences through her books Madalyonun İçi, Camdaki Kız, Kral Kaybederse, and Günahın Üç Rengi, which have reached a wide readership and raised awareness of psychological issues in society. These works have been widely adapted into popular TV series. Known for her deep exploration of human psychology and focus on social issues, Budayıcıoğlu is recognized as one of Turkey’s leading psychiatrists and authors.
As part of Hacettepe University Faculty of Architecture's Architecture Conferences series and in celebration of International Women’s Day, a special online speech will be held with Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 12:30 PM via Microsoft Teams.
