Nevruz in the Turkic World

Nevruz is a deeply rooted festival in the Turkic world that symbolizes the arrival of spring and the revival of nature. Celebrated for centuries by various Turkic communities through different rituals and festivities, Nevruz represents renewal, abundance, hope, and togetherness. Traditions associated with this festival-such as jumping over fire, decorating eggs, and reciting folk verses (mâni)-serve both to transmit knowledge and experience from past generations and to remind communities of their shared values.
The event titled “Nevruz in the Turkic World”, organized in collaboration with the Department of Turkish Folklore and the Center for Research and Application of Traditional Music Culture, will examine the historical development of Nevruz, the diverse forms of its celebration among Turkic communities, and its cultural and social significance from an academic perspective. The program will be moderated by Prof. Dr. F. Gülay Mirzaoğlu. Prof. Dr. Özkul Çobanoğlu and Prof. Dr. Abdulselam Arvas will participate as speakers. A musical performance will be presented by Research Assistant Akdeniz Erbaş.The event will take place on 25 March 2026 at 14:00 in Tuğrul İnal Hall. Everyone interested in and devoted to Turkish culture is invited to attend.
