Motivation is an important psychological process that shapes students’ engagement, learning, persistence, and success. In this talk, I will discuss what motivation is and how faculty can support it using five theoretically based and empirically supported motivational design principles. Faculty will have the opportunity to reflect on their own instruction and consider how the design principles can be applied in their instruction.
