As part of the "Hacettepe University Climate Dialogues Towards COP31" organised by our university, a significant session entitled "Resilient Cities, Nature-Based Solutions, and Digital Risk Management" focusing on the resilience of our cities against disasters and the climate crisis will be held on 17 August 2026, marking the anniversary of the 17 August 1999 Earthquake.
Drawing upon the historical memory of the 17 August Earthquake, the main objective of the session is to discuss the role of nature-based solutions, green-blue infrastructure, ecological planning, and local adaptation strategies in enhancing urban resilience against climate-related risks. Furthermore, the programme will comprehensively examine the monitoring of urban risks—such as extreme heat, floods, and infrastructure disruptions—via geographic information systems, remote sensing, spatial AI, and digital twins, alongside the integration of technological and ecological solutions into urban planning processes.
Moderated by Prof. Dr Mine Durusu Tanrıöver, the programme will feature a keynote speech by Prof. Dr Alper Çabuk, Director of the Earth and Space Sciences Institute at Eskişehir Technical University, followed by a panel discussion.
