This seminar aims to introduce critical theory, critical theories in education, and critical pedagogy, respectively. In particular, the primary motivation behind critical pedagogy's emergence, development, and diffusion will be discussed within the framework of the theorists who contributed to its development and their ideas and practices. Critical Pedagogy, which began to develop in the 1960s with the contributions of Paulo Freire, has many different branches in terms of educational methodology, political perspective, and practical experience. However, a similar or common conceptual terminology is used; this conceptual terminology will also be included in the seminar. The Turkish education system will also be analyzed in the context of Critical Pedagogy. The aim is to provide participants with an overview of critical approaches and critical pedagogy in education.
