The ongoing experience of humans as social beings is to constantly interact with the environment to meet salient, psychological and social needs. In these communications with their environment, people express their feelings, thoughts, wishes and interests through various and unique behavioral patterns such as passive, aggressive, manipulative and assertive. Assertiveness is the individual's ability to express his or her positive and negative feelings, thoughts and desires directly, effectively and appropriately, while respecting their freedom and without feeling anxious or guilty about it. Assertiveness is a desired style of behavior in interpersonal relationships, and keeps the person effective in interpersonal communication. The aim of this seminar is to familiarize audience with their own behaviors regarding assertiveness used in interpersonal relationships, and to learn some techniques (using I language, making appropriate request, saying ‘no’) that can support the ability to display assertive behavior.
